oMakingfunofsomeone'sactions.

Indirect:(socialandpsychological)

oExcludingothersfromtheactivityorthegroup;

oSpreadinguntruestoriesaboutothers;

oMakinginappropriategestures;

oTaking,hidingordamagingsomethingwhichbelongstosomeoneelse;

oSendingnastyemailsortextmessages;and

StrategiestoDealwithBullying

AtMuirfieldHighthereisastrongschoolspiritwhereeffectiveandsystematicsprogramstocommunicatetoallstudentsthemessagethatbullyingisnotacceptedortolerated.

oTobeobservantofsignsofdistressorsuspectedincidentsofbullying;

oToensurethatstudentsaresupervisedatalltimes.

Responsibilitiesofstudents:

oTomodelappropriatebehaviour,respectingindividualdifferencesanddiversity;

oToreinforcethemessagethatbullyingisnotacceptedortolerated;

oTohelpsomeonewhoisbeingbullied;

oTorefrainfrombullyingothers;

oToinformtheauthoritiesiftheyarebeingbulliedoriftheyseesomeoneelsebeingbullied-bothatschoolandonthewaytoandfromschool.

Responsibilitiesofparents:

oTomodelappropriatebehaviour,respectingindividualdifferencesanddiversity;

oToreinforcethemessagethatbullyingisnotacceptedortolerated;

oToinstructtheirchildrentotelltheappropriateauthoritiesiftheyarebullied;

oTowatchforsignsthattheirchildmaybebullied;

oTospeaktotheYearAdviserortheDeputyPrincipal,responsiblefortheirchild’syeargroup,iftheirchildisbeingbulliedortheysuspectthatthisishappening.

Studentscanexpectthattheirconcernswillberespondedtobytheschoolstaffandthattheywillbeprovidedwithappropriatesupport(forboththesubjectsofandthoseresponsibleforthebehaviour).

Studentswhobullyother*ayfaceoneormoreofthefollowingconsequences:

oInvolvementinamediationprocess;

oCompletionofanAnti-BullyingAwarenessraisingbooklet;

oReferraltotheschoolcounsellor;

oParent*aybecontactedbytheschool;

oPrivilege*aybewithdrawn(egexclusionfromtheplayground);

oSanctionsoutlinedintheSchool'sDisciplinePolicysuchasdetentionandsuspension.
