In2009MissForbes,MissMathieson,MissBakerandMrsWalshattendedtrainingonthe‘HabitsofMind’.ThisyearmoreteacherswillbeattendingtrainingontheHabits.TheHabitsofMindarethedispositionscalleduponbyintelligentpeoplewhenconfrontedwithproblems,thesolutionstowhicharenotimmediatelyapparent.IdentifiedbyEmeritusProfessorArtCostaandexpandeduponwithBenaKallick,the16HabitsofMindhavebeenadoptedbyschools,familiesandinworkplacesasameanstodevelopmorethoughtfulbehaviour.

Asaresultofthistraining,teachersatOatlandsarebeginningtodeveloplessonsandactivitiesthatfocusonimprovingstudents’HabitsofMind.WeareplanningonmakingtheHabitsacorepartofourcultureforstudents,parentsandstaff.StaffandstudentsareadoptingtheHabitsofMindasawaytoincreasetheirthoughtfulness.BymonitoringouruseoftheHabitsofMind,evaluatinghoweffectivelyweareusingthem,andsettinggoalstodevelopourHabitsweareenabledtobehavemoreintelligently.

AcceleratedLiteracyisahighlyeffectiveliteracyprogramdesignedtoraisestudents’literacytoageappropriatelevelsinthe shortestpossibletime.
